23 Sep Sauteed Apples – Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Vegan
One of the best things about fall are the scents of fall; cinnamon, cloves, and apples, whether it be apple pies, cider, or these sauteed apples. I love taking apples and sauteeing them in large batches to keep in the fridge in a large tupperware, place them in pretty jars and give them as gifts, or freeze them. What are sauteed apples you ask? They are basically the inside of apple pie. They are so delicious warm over ice cream, drizzled with a little cream (if you can have it or use non-dairy) or as a topping for our Pumpkin Spice Pancakes! And they are ridiculously easy. In fact, I don’t even peel my apples because I’m lazy. Truly. And I like the slivers of color that the skin of the apples adds, along with a bit of texture!
I use a variety of apples, or at least 2. I would not recommend Golden Delicious as they tend to go mushy, but most tart apples work just fine. I always use a couple of Granny Smith and then I add a red tart variety such as Honeycrisp or Rome apples. This recipe is very forgiving and you can add additional things such as gold raisins or even a good slug of brandy if you want! I usually double this batch so that I have it on hand so I don’t have to keep making it. It lasts for a good week in the fridge, especially if you add the brandy;)
